Illinois Youth Dance Theatre will present the classic holiday ballet “The Nutcracker.”

It will be an especially meaningful moment for Amy Dixon when Herr Drosselmeyer hands a magical gift to Marie, the character she plays in Illinois Youth Dance Theatre’s “The Nutcracker.” Herr Drosselmeyer is played by the Glenbrook North High School senior’s father, Lou Dixon.

The Northbrook resident, who has been dancing since she was three, has appeared in four productions of “The Nutcracker” with the dance company. This is her first time playing Marie, who she called, “bubbling and outgoing, the life of the party.”

“It’s a challenging role—which I like. It pushes me to my limits,” Amy said. “It’s great to be able to dance with my dad. We get some bonding time.” Lou Dixon danced in two earlier productions.

Performances are 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22 at Lake Zurich Performing Arts Center, 300 Church St. Tickets are $10-$25.
