The Fillies opened the girls high school Blackhawk Cut Feb. 12 with a dominating 7-3 victory over Glenbrook South at Northbrook Ice Arena.
The ninth-seeded Fillies had swept the two-game season series with No. 8 Glenbrook South, but it was the Titans who got on the board first in the first round playoff game.
But Loren Holfeld quickly answered with a pair of goals to stake the visitors to a 2-1 advantage heading into the second period. At 5:50, Katie Riley of Glenbrook scored her second goal of the evening to knot the score at 2 apiece.
From there, it was all Fillies, with two goals apeice from Justine Panzeca and Loren Holfeld, and one from Breezi Vanderwiel to create a 7-2 cushion. Glenbrook’s Riley later completed her hat trick to end the scoring.
The Fillies move to the quarterfinals, where they will meet No. 1 seed New Trier.
“New Trier is a very good team with very deep talent,” said Fillies coach Sean Easton. “Their second and third lines of forwards will give us a lot to handle on defense. But, we’re happy to have a chance to advance and we’ll be ready for the challenge. “
The Fillies are comprised of students from Barrington, Lake Zurich, Hersey and Wauconda.
The date of game is yet to be determined, but will be played before March 4th.
