It was the perfect scenario — for Libertyville.
The Wildcats girls basketball team has earned a berth into the NSC Championship Game for the third year in a row.
Tuesday worked out perfectly for the Wildcats. They finished 9-3 in the Lake Division with their 56-31 victory over visiting Lake Forest.
Meanwhile, Lake Zurich used a last-second shot by Katherine Anderson to knock off Stevenson 44-42 on Tuesday night. With the loss, Stevenson fell to 8-3.
Based on the tiebreaker, Libertyville gets the nod to play Vernon Hills in title game on Feb. 8. The Cougars will host the all-District 128 affair at 7 p.m.
The Cougars improved to 11-0 in the Prairie Division with a convincing 56-39 victory over host Antioch on Tuesday. They will complete league play with a road game at Lakes on Saturday (2:30 p.m.).
Libertyville (19-6) and Vernon Hills (20-3) met in the Mundelein Holiday Tournament in December. The Wildcats escaped with a 41-38 victory.
In the win over Lake Forest, the Wildcats were led in scoring by seniors Alex Haley (12 points) and Kerry Risley (10 points).
