Five players scored in double figures for the Lake Zurich boys basketball team, but it wasn’t enough.
The Bears (11-10) dropped a 68-65 overtime decision to host Mundelein on Tuesday night in NSC Lake action.
“We played extremely hard and never gave up,” noted Lake Zurich head coach Billy Pitcher. “I am really proud of our kids, and we should have a lot of confidence after (this) performance.”
Mirko Grcic led all scorers with 17 points. He also pulled down 15 rebounds and dished out three assists.
Ryan Roach of the Bears finished with 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Lake Zurich also received solid showings from Jeff O’Brien (11 points, 4 rebounds), Doug Murphy (11 points, 4 rebounds) and John Repplinger (10 points).
Repplinger, a junior, also was a standout on the defensive end. He held Mundelein’s Robert Knar to 14 points.
O’Brien sent the game to overtime, when he hit a three from the left wing late in the fourth quarter.
Roach also was clutch. He nailed three three-pointers in the fourth frame.
The Bears will have a busy weekend. First, they will travel to Libertyville on Friday (7:30 p.m.) for an NSC Lake game. Then, on Saturday, they will play Johnsburg at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee at 3 p.m.
