It keeps getting better for ex-Lake Zurich High School standout Matt Blanchard.
The UW-Whitewater quarterback, who helped the Warhawks win a Division III national title this season, will put on the pads and compete in the Players All-Star Classic football game.
The event, which will take place on Feb. 4 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Ark., will feature players who are rated as prospects for the 2012 NFL Draft.
According to a press release, athletes from all levels of collegiate football have been invited to play in the showcase. Most of players will be selected from the SEC, Big 12, ACC, Big Ten and HBCU conferences.
Kurt Schottenheimer, who has worked as defensive coordinator for three NFL teams, will coach the South team; and Martin Bayless, a position coach for four NFL squads, will coach the North.
Blanchard, who recently completed his senior season at UW-Whitewater, departed for Tampa, Fla., Monday where he will train for the event.
The Warhawk signal caller guided UW-W to its third straight national championship, topping the University of Mount Union, 13-10, in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.
Blanchard compiled a 25-0 record as a starting quarterback at UW-Whitewater. He threw for 2,852 yards and 23 touchdowns this past fall. He also rushed for 452 yards and two TDs.
