You didn’t need to be a prophet to see this coming. Lake Zurich has named David Proffitt as its new head football coach. Proffitt, who has been the Bears’ defensive coordinator for the past six years, will replace Bryan Stortz, who has taken a job at Rock Island. Lake Zurich went with experience. Led by Michael Fleming’s 23 points, the Stevenson boys basketball team claimed a 56-48 road win over Lake Zurich on Wednesday night. The Patriots (14-9, 5-5) took control of this NSC Lake contest early, when they jumped out to a 20-5 first-quarter advantage. Jalen Brunson finished with 11 points for Stevenson, while Colby Cashaw added 10. The game’s leading scorer was senior Mirko Grcic, who went 6-for-7 at the foul line to end up with 24 points for the Bears (14-12, 5-5). He was the lone LZ player in double figures. COLLEGE FOOTBALL — Ex-Lake Zurich quarterback Matt Blanchard had a productive performance in the Players All-Star Classic football game, which was held Saturday in Little Rock, Ark. Blanchard, a senior at UW-Whitewater, helped the North squad to a 24-19 victory. He tossed a 17-yard TD to Buffalo’s Marcus Rivers with 31 seconds left in the half. And she took the title in convincing fashion, averaging a 224.5 (1346 pins). Antioch’s Kelsey Schreiber was the runner-up with a 1284 (212.5). Rigwood has hit her stride at the right time. Tuesday worked out perfectly for the Wildcats. They finished 9-3 in the Lake Division with their 56-31 victory over visiting Lake Forest.
