In Remembrance concert
The lake Zurich High School Choir will perform two concerts at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sept. 11, called “In Remembrance,” a tribute to those who lost their lives 10 years ago on 9/11. The concerts are open to the public and are free of charge, though donations will be collected for charity.
Library card sign up month
September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month. In participation, the Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, will give away reusable nylon messenger-style bags that fit in a pocket or purse to new cardholders throughout the month.
Those that already have a card and check out 10 or more items on any Friday in September will receive a free Culver’s custard coupon while supplies last.
Library collection drive for military
The Ela Area Public Library, 275 Mohawk Trail, will host the Operation Support Our Troops collection drive from Sunday through Sept. 12. Checks for monetary donations should be made out to OSOT-IL. For a list of items needed, go to www.osotil.org.
In addition to collecting donated goods and monetary donations, the library will also collect letters of support. Address unsealed letters to “Dear Military Person.” No postage is needed and include a name and address if you want a response. Drop boxes will be located in the library’s lobby.
Emmy award winner visiting
Deer Park Town Center, located at the intersection of Rand and Long Grove roads, will welcome two-time Emmy award winner Kevin Briody to attend the live Sing! contest performances on Sept. 17.
Sing! is a national vocal talent competition designed to shine the spotlight on choirs, choruses, gospel singers, glee clubs, vocal groups and soloists. For more information, log on to www.deerpark.2011Sing.com.
Girl Scouts seek alums
The Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois organization is seeking accomplished alumni to recognize at several local events in honor of the Girl Scout 100th Anniversary in 2012.
If you or someone you admire was ever a Girl Scout, contact Anne-Marie Soderstrom at asoderstrom@girlscoutsni.org to share your Girl Scout story, be featured as a role model for today’s girls and possibly be recognized at a local 100th Anniversary event.
Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois is also seeking the oldest, living Girl Scout to be honored at its’ centennial celebration on April 28, 2012 at the Northern Illinois University Convocation Center. Recommendations may be sent to Rose Ellen May at rmay@girlscoutsni.org.
