Lake Zurich to provide police dispatch service to Island Lake

LAKE ZURICH — The Lake Zurich Village Board has agreed to provide its police dispatch services to Island Lake.

Trustees approved a five-year deal Monday night, which will bring in new revenue of $111,700 in the first year of the agreement.

“We feel that the Village of Island Lake is a good fit,” said Patrick Finlon, Lake Zurich’s chief of police.

Island Lake committed to an initial annual fee of $111,700, and subsequent service years will be priced based on Lake Zurich’s current fee structure that was applied to the villages of Kildeer and Hawthorn Woods.

Finlon explained that the department’s dispatch center has had room to expand since 2011, when Deer Park agreed to contract with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Finlon said the move resulted in a revenue loss for Lake Zurich. While only servicing Kildeer, the dispatch center experienced decreases in shift staffing, overall activity and its communications load.

Officials said the Lake Zurich Public Safety Answering Point/Dispatch Center can accommodate the increased workload from Island Lake without having to expand staff.
