A Lake Zurich man was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren announced.

The Sheriff’s Office alleges that Louis P. Hoerauf, 34, of 23513 Field Road in Lake Zurich, sexually abused two girls, both of whom were six years old at the time of the alleged assaults.

According to police, officers were notified in September that a 14-year-old girl had told a counselor that Hoerauf sexually abused her eight years before while she was living in Wonder Lake. After an investigation, McHenry County’s Criminal Investigations Division also reported that it learned of a second victim. Now 18, the woman alleged that Hoerauf sexually abused her in the same manner when she was six.

“After her disclosure, another relative came forward and said she was also abused when she was six,” explained Jim Popovits of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department.

Popovits said Hoerauf was temporarily living in the same Wonder Lake residence when the alleged assaults occurred. A news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department states that Hoerauf admitted to assaulting both children during police interviews.

He was taken into custody and transported to the McHenry County Jail.

Predatory criminal sexual assault of a child charges are Class X felonies. Hoerauf is being held on $100,000 bail, with a court date set for Jan. 24.
