LAKE ZURICH—On July 19, the Ela Township Shooting Stars hosted the 4th Annual Youth Township Olympics at Knox Park. More than 100 youth from Hanover, DuPage, Maine, Aurora and Ela townships participated in the day long event. During the opening ceremony, the youth beamed as they marched through the football field carrying their township banners. Susan Fackler, LCSW Director of the Ela Social Work and Youth Program, welcomed the youth and Trustee Jack Reck led them in the pledge of allegiance. The field was buzzing as the competition began. Some events played included dodgeball, water balloon toss, ski relay, foxtail throw, parachuting and a yarn maze. The kids’ enthusiasm continued throughout the afternoon after a delicious hot dog lunch and a special snowcone treat. The youth had an amazing time topping off the afternoon games with music and dance. At the end of the day, the final surprise was the awards ceremony. Every participant received their own Olympic medal! The day was a great success. We would like to include a special thank you to Ela Township, 7-11, Burger King, Jewel, Geoff Meyers & Ralph Gualano, Long Grove Fire Department member Marc Small, the Charity Knit & Crocheters, Carmen & Sarah Renta, Kathleen Brej, and Nancy Peistrup. We look forward to what the 5th Annual Youth Township Olympics will bring!
