Trustees send store plans to commission

The Lake Zurich Village Board gave Bradford Real Estate Companies the go-ahead to take its plans for a 73,000-square-foot Mariano’s Fresh Market to the Plan Commission.

Steven Pagnotta, president of Bradford, told the Village Board Tuesday night that Bradford is working with Roundy’s Supermarkets, Inc. on the project, which will be located at the northwest corner of Route 22 and Quentin Road. Mariano’s will face Route 22 and the plan is to include 375 parking spaces. Plans brought to the Plan Commission will also include three outlots, which could be used for banks, restaurants or other smaller businesses, but nothing has been made official yet.

Pagnotta said his company has already spoken with both the Illinois Department of Transportation and Lake County Department of Transportation to determine how vehicles will access the property. Bradford Real Estate Companies has already completed two Mariano’s stores, one in Palatine and one in Vernon Hills.

“Each store that Mariano’s builds is unique,” Pagnotta said.

Pagnotta made it a point to state that they will meet or exceed all landscaping standards required by village ordinances, something Trustee Tom Poynton liked to hear.

“That corner is the gateway to Lake Zurich from the east,” he said, encouraging Pagnotta to keep that in mind.

Max Dickman, real estate development manager for Roundy’s Supermarkets, said this will be the fifth store in Illinois. In addition to the stores in Palatine and Lake Zurich, there is also a store in Arlington Heights and two in Chicago.

“The customers in this market were going to four, five, six stores for what we thought we could provide in one store,” Dickman said, adding customer service is a big part of what Mariano’s offers.

The location will likely have a dining area, though it has not yet been determined whether it will be indoors or outdoors.

Mariano’s Fresh Market would bring 450 jobs to the area and between 125-150 construction employees as its being built, according to Pagnotta.

The next step is for the developers to present the project to the Plan Commission, which makes recommendations to the Village Board.
