The Food Allergy Initiative held their 2012 fundraiser luncheon on May 14 at the Four Seasons, 120 E. Delaware Place in Chicago.

The keynote speaker for the evening was New York Times food columnist Mark Bittman. The recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award was Gale Gand, nationally acclaimed pastry chef, restaurateur, cookbook author, television personality, teacher, entrepreneur and mother and currently the Chef in Residence at Elawa Farm in Lake Forest.

The co-chairmen of the event were Denise Bunning of Lake Forest, Linda Levinson Friend of Chicago and Cari Sacks of Highland Park.

Nearly 400 guests raised more than $335,000 through table and ticket sales, contributions and sponsorships. All funds raised will be used to support research for a cure from food allergies.

FAI supports 30 active research sites worldwide, including epidemiological, general, and clinical research at Children’s Memorial Hospital and Northwestern University.

FAI’s 2012 Chicago Benefit Gala to raise money to find a cure for life threatening food allergies will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, at the River East Art Center, Chicago. Honorees are Karin and Dean Teglia. Gala chairman is Michelle Kaplan; auction chair is Debby Beerman and gift bag chair is Katie Cohen.
