DEER PARK — Authorities are investigating what started a basement fire that caused a firefighter to suffer a minor injury.
Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department crews were dispatched to a home at 21452 Sumac Court at 9:06 a.m. Sunday, with firefighters reporting visible smoke coming from the first-floor door.
In the basement, firefighters reported a sectional couch was on fire. Crews put the fire out and used fans to disperse the smoke.
The firefighter was treated on the scene and the injury did not require transport to the hospital. Both homeowners were checked by paramedics and released.
Cause of the fire was undetermined. There was no damage estimate, which fire officials said will be determined by the homeowners’ insurance company.
Mutual aid for water and station coverage was provided by Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Countryside, Deerfield, Lake Villa, Libertyville, Long Grove and Wauconda fire departments, among others.
