House of Mayhem promises horrifying experiences

St. Matthew Lutheran Church’s House of Mayhem, at 24500 N. Old McHenry Road between Rand and Quentin roads, was rated in the top 10 by Haunted Illinois last year, and has remained in the voters’ poll top 10 for a few years.
Formerly named Haunted House and now in its 21st year, the House of Mayhem is completely rebuilt each year with new rooms and attractions. This year’s House of Mayhem takes guests room by room through a very troubled home — if one get through the front yard, that is.
This particular home has every room imaginable, including an attic and basement of course, plus a multitude of other rooms never found in an ordinary home; each room with its own unique horrifying experience. One room is a welcome surprise.
House of Mayhem dates are Oct. 12-13, 19-20 and 26-27 from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $12 with large group discounts available. Tickets can be purchased and used on a subsequent night, or reserve ticket numbers by purchasing advance tickets through PayPal prior to the event or any time prior to arrival that night.
Waiting is inside the church/school building. The tickets are sequentially numbered for all shows, so after purchasing tickets, you may enjoy refreshments for purchase and/or listen to the entertainment provided, and not have to wait in a long formal line. After numbers are called, guests move to the entrance area of the House. Some patrons buy their tickets and then return later after their number has been called. Those patrons move directly to the entrance area of the House upon their return.
The Kiddie House for the youngsters will be held on Oct. 13-14, 20-21 and 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets for the Kiddie House are $6. Flashlight guided tours are provided with no live actors. Large group discounts are available.
