LAKE ZURICH — One person died and two others were hospitalized in an accident Tuesday in Lake Zurich after a van drifted across the center line and caused a head-on collision on Cuba Road.

Deputy Police Chief Kevin Finlon said a Ford Explorer was eastbound on Cuba Road when a Dodge Caravan drifted over the center line and struck the Ford Explorer. Finlon said alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the 1:20 p.m. wreck and the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is investigating the crash.

Lake Zurich Fire Department Capt. Bob Bachler said emergency crews arrived to find two people, one in each vehicle, requiring extrication. “It was a pretty significant incident,” he said.

Both of those people were transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Lake Barrington, where one man died. He was driving the Dodge Caravan. The Lake County Coroner’s Office was not releasing the name late Tuesday because relatives had not been notified.

The crash occurred on Cuba Road and Berkshire Lane. It took almost a half hour to free the two people from the vehicles. The Ford Explorer was driven by a woman who had her dughter as a passenger. The daughter was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

Barrington and Countryside fire departments assisted on the scene.
